Umelec Doug Aitken sa vytvoril vo švajčiarskych Alpách unikát, ktorý odráža krásu týchto majestátnych veľhôr – doslova. Všetko vzniklo v rámci švajčiarskeho festivalu umenia Elevation 1049. Najnovšia inštalácia nesie názov Mirage Gstaad.

Dom zo skla

Najnovšia inštalácia nesie názov Mirage Gstaad a má podobu vidieckeho domu, ktorý celý pokrývajú zrkadlá. V tých sa odráža krajina a dom sa tak rafinovane stráca v okolitej scenérii. Výnimočné dielo nájdeš v Gstaade a môžeš ho navštíviť do roku 2021. Model je inšpirovaný tvorbou architekta Franka Lloyda Wrighta a architektúrou amerického západu.

'Mirage Gstaad', a new outdoor site-specific sculpture by Los Angeles-based artist Doug Aitken, will be on view until spring 2021 The work is part of Elevation 1049: Frequencies, the third iteration of the winter arts blennial in Gstaad In the tradition of land art as a reflection of the dreams and aspirations projected onto the American West, Mirage Gstaad presents a continually changing encounter in which subject and object, inside and outside are in constant flux. With every available surface clad in mirror, it both absorbs and reflects the landscape around in such ways that the exteríor will seemingly disappear just as the interior draws the viewer into a never-ending kaleidoscope of light and reflection. As Mirage Gstaad pulls the landscape in and reflects it back out, this classic one-story suburban house becomes a framing device, a perceptual echo-chamber endlessly bouncing between the dream of nature as pure uninhabited state and the pursuit of its conquest. Situated against the backdrop of Videmanette in Gstaad, Mirage Gstaad will bring the idea of the Manifest Destiny and the American West into contact with the European landscape and the tradition of the sublime. Na stránke švajčiarskeho festivalu sa úvádza, že Aitkenovým zámerom bolo využiť kontrast amerického západu a švajčiarskych veľhôr. Zrkadlový dom je sklenený zvnútra a zakrivenie zrkadiel ponúka zážitok, ako keby si stál uprostred obrovského kaleidoskopu. Je vymodelovaný podľa kalifornského domu zo začiatku 20. storočia.

Putovný domček

Inštalácia v Alpách je už tretím využitím skleneného domu. Doug Aitkin ho pôvodne vytvoril pri príležitosti výstavy v kalifornskej galérii Coachella Valley. Hoci umelec neplánoval dom vystavovať ďalej, jeho názor zmenil Detroit. Aitkinov dom v životnej veľkosti sa tak ocitol v nehostinnom prostredí púšte. V tomto kontexte sa svojim spôsobom stal svedectvom a upozornením na minulosť a život strednej triedy v danej oblasti. „To, ako ľudia dom vnímajú, je súčasťou evolúcie,“ vyjadril sa Aitken pre Gallerie magazín.
